A Summary of the March 27 Board of Education meeting
The following groups and students were honored for oustanding achievement: Utica High School College Board Advanced Placement International Diploma Candidates; Utica High School United States Military Academy at West Point Acceptance; Utica High School Academic Scholars; Stevenson High School National Dance Competition; Stevenson High School State Jazz Festival Award Winners; Stevenson High School State Competitive Cheer; Stevenson High School Academic Scholars and Perfect ACT Score.
Dr. Johns updated the Board of Education on the continued growth District's graduation rate, the success of the K-12 Art Show and a reminder about the April 16 UCS College Fair.
Career Focus Luncheon
The Board adopted a resolution of support for the annual Career Focus Lunchon on May 3 and May 4.
The Board adopted a resolution authorizing the sale of the vacant Magahay Elementary School.
A report was presented on 2017-2018 budget projections. A list of reductions was also approved. The presentation is available on the UCS web site at http://funding.uticak12.org.
Computer Science Principles
An Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles course was approved by the Board. The course is an introduction to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges students to explore how computing and technology can impact the world.
The April 10 Board of Education meeting was canceled due to spring break.
A contract for Advancement Via individual Determination (AVID) elective classes was approved by the Board.
