Area families can create a successful game plan for their children’s educational future at the 12th annual Utica Community Schools Academic Blitz on Thursday, February 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Henry Ford II High School, 11911 Clinton River Road in Sterling Heights.

The event, initiated in 2008 by the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board, is open to all area families interested in exploring specific options available for UCS students.

“Every member of our school community has high expectations for students and their future. The Academic Blitz provides our parents and students the opportunity to learn more about their options and begin building that critical bridge between graduation and a successful post-secondary experience,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns.

Families attending the Blitz can choose from among 20 sessions, including: Advanced Placement opportunities; getting ready for college, high school and junior high school; dual enrollment; and UCS high school specialty programs. Students from the UCS Superintendent Advisory Council will also host a special workshop for students preparing for high school on tips for successful secondary success. Breakout sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The event will also feature several presentations on jobs of the future. The Society of Women Engineers at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will address future opportunities and will be displaying the Ram 1500, the 2019 Truck of Year from this year’s North American Auto Show. There will also be a short presentation on how jobs in virtual reality are impacting the facility design industry.

Informational booths will be available with representatives from a variety of district programs. Booths will open at 6:00 p.m. and remain open until 9:00 p.m.
