Secondary School Counseling
Students in grades seven through twelve receive a comprehensive guidance and counseling program which provides activities to address the needs of students, teachers, staff and parents. The comprehensive program is designed around three domains: academic, college and career, and personal/social development.
School counselors encourage the following mindsets for all students:

Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being

Self-confidence in ability to succeed

Sense of belonging in the school environment

Understanding that post-secondary education and life-long learning are necessary for long-term career success

The Academic Domain activities include:

Working one-on-one with students experiencing academic difficulties

Teaching time management, organizational and study skills to individual, small groups and large groups of students

Conducting and facilitating conferences with teachers, students, parents and administrators

Referring students, as needed, to appropriate community agencies in consultation with their parents

Assisting staff in the placement of students with special needs

Helping students identify long- and short-term goals

Encouraging students to actively engage in challenging coursework

Adjusting student schedules and balancing classes to ensure optimal class size and learning environment

Acting as an advocate for students, as appropriate, in conjunction with other staff
