UCS teams have Olympiad competition down to a science

Utica Community Schools students have demonstrated they have STEM down to a science.

UCS secondary Science Olympiad teams recently earned the top positions in a regional hands-on science competition. 

Four UCS teams earned top honors  in the Macomb County Science Olympiad, which featured teams from Macomb and St. Clair counties. The achievements earned the teams the right to take part in the Michigan Science Olympiad tournament.

Science Olympiad is a national competition that challenge students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

The competition challenges students to work in team in hands-on competition that require them to research and create projects related to genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology.

 Teams earning first place include:

  • Davis Junior High School, first place –  Nolan Datema, Maria Bugnar, Ashley Popko, Marcy Morris, Maxymilian Stefanski, Anika Malhotra, Sajiv Sundar, Stefen Petronijevic, Amrita Nayak, Tyler Wright, Devansh Shah, Harkabir Singh, Sophia Hathon, Ivan Toubia and Sara Poles
  • Malow Junior High School, fourth place - Joseph Aniel, Nathaniel Ayoub, Divya Bartley, Hector Beltran, Logan Bergler, Nicholas Benner, Nicholas Felarca, Thomas Harris, Hamza Hussain, Emma Jacob, Jason Jimenez, Rachel Jimenez, Nahvi Job, Shefali Khullar, Joshua McCoy, Sean Santos, Joey Tidrow, Jennifer Upcott, Karina Walker and Sophia Witulski.
  • Eisenhower High School, first place - Amanda Catey, Nick Spanos, Leo Barrios, Katerina Bastounis, Irlanda Beltran, Joey LaFeir, Rosalia Midulla, Kevin Shehu, Sarah Thomas, Arsinoi Bastounis, Kyle Bergler, Cameron DiLabio, Molly Klein, Aishani Moradia and Hari Ramakrishnan
