UCS students, local business partner honored for excellence in CTE

Studio photos of honored studentsTwo Utica Community Schools seniors have been honored as students of the year by the Macomb County Career Technical Education Administrators Association.

Rei Fejzulla, of Stevenson High School, and Clayton Scott, of Eisenhower High School, will be honored at the annual Career Technical Education awards breakfast February 7.

Rei Fejzulla is an outstanding young man who has excelled in the Medical Science program at Adlai Stevenson High School. He is an excellent student, earning top marks in the medical classes, as well as, academic challenging classes like AP Biology and AP Chemistry. As a junior, Rei won the Pharmacy Science event at the Michigan HOSA State Leadership Conference, qualifying for and representing Stevenson High School at the International HOSA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. This year, he is an active student leader on the HOSA board and is competing in the Physical Therapy event for the HOSA competition. Rei is also doing an outstanding job as a school to work participant, working for Troy Beaumont Hospital as a Physical
Therapy Technician.

As impressive as this resume is, it becomes more impressive when considering Rei immigrated to the United States from Albania as a 10-year-old. He has excelled as a student and grown into a student leader while learning a new language and culture. Rei is planning to attend Wayne State University or Oakland University to pursue a degree in Pharmacy or Medicine, possibly as an anesthesiologist. Rei Fejzulla is exactly the type of person who is needed in healthcare.

Clayton Scott is a senior in our Marketing CTE program he is an outstanding student and is deserving of this award. Beginning in 10th grade he enrolled in Marketing I and Marketing II. He is currently part of the Eagles Nest school store program and he is taking Business Law at Macomb Community College as part of the early college entry program. Clayton has also taken many of the AP classes offered as part of the Utica Community Schools Curriculum. Clayton is a dedicated, well rounded young man who is a high achieving student focused on pursuing a career in the area of business and marketing.
Clayton is our DECA President and has been involved in DECA for three years.

He is currently working on the School Based Enterprise certification paper that we will submit for the Eagles Nest School Store to be certified through DECA. Clayton will be attending Northwood University where he will be pursuing the Northwood University four-year BBA/MBA track which is an intensive program of study for high-achieving, focused students. Students accepted into the four-year BBA/MBA track who follow the program of study will be able to complete their Bachelor of Business Administration degree in three years and their Master of Business Administration degree in one additional year.

Beaumont Hospital 

Mrs. Boyd of Beaumont Hospital Troy is a wonderful resource for Utica Community Schools Medical Science students. Not only does she coordinate monthly student job shadowing and Future Nurses Club meetings, but she also provides the students with valuable help in volunteer and employment opportunities. As a graduate of Utica High School, Mrs. Boyd has furthered her education to gain success in her field as a Human Resource Associate. Her expertise, as well as her enthusiasm for our students, serves to enhance our affiliation with the Beaumont System.
